The Michigan Indo-American Democratic Caucus (MIADC) summer Political Internship Program is intended to encourage Indo-American youth to participate in the political process. The program is ideal for those interested in a career in public service. This program is open to all Indo-American graduate and undergraduate students who are residents of the state of Michigan. Interns should be prepared to travel to the offices they are placed in for the internship.

MIADC interns will begin work in May/June 2009. The starting and ending dates are flexible. Interns will be required to put in a minimum of 20 hours per week for 4 weeks OR 40 hours per week for two weeks through the program period in the office in which they are placed and on MIADC special projects.

Intern Responsibilities
MIADC interns may have the opportunity to:
• Learn firsthand how government works and lawmakers resolve constituent issues
• Identify issues of concern to the Asian/ Pacific American community and the community at large
• Be involved in a political campaign and learn how a political campaign is run
• Work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals
• Work with the Michigan Democratic Party and MIADC during events

The lawmaker’s office or campaign office interns are placed in will ultimately decide what the interns' responsibilities are.

The internship carries a stipend of $300.
2 internships are available for the summer of 2009.

A MIADC panel will review all applications. Applicants may be called for an interview with the MIADC internship committee as part of the selection process.

Summer 2009
Arthi Chandrasekaran is a summer 2009 MIADC intern and a student of political science at Wayne State University. Arthi is captain of the Wayne State Forensics Speech Team and a member of the Professional Fraternity Delta Sigma Rho/Tau Kappa Alpha. Arthi recently started a political blog by the name of ArtfullySpeaking and is a Chinmaya Mission Ann Arbor Youth Committee member. Arthi is working with Organizing for America.
